Back Pain and Its Remedies
Back pain is quite a common phenomenon and generally occurs due to wrong posture or sudden movements. Each one of us is prone to back pain since the lower portion of our back supports a large portion of our body weight. The stability and the fitness of the lower back is dependant on the strength and the position of our vertebral bodies and the inter-vertebral disks. Back pain is often a short-term phenomenon and can be rectified by exercises or painkillers. However, back pains can also become chronic and recur by even a small movement. Back Pain is generally not associated with an injury or illness and may even go away without any medication. Painkillers, such as Aspirin, Ibuprofen...

Chronic Pain Relief: An Overview
Everyone will experience pain at some point in their lives. Pain is a necessary form of protection against injuries, diseases, or conditions that would otherwise impair or even kill us. Pain alerts us that something is wrong. Pain can be either ‘acute’ or ‘chronic’ – the distinguishing characteristic between the two is their duration. Acute pain usually occurs after a specific injury. It appears quickly and is usually very intense – one example is the pain of a broken bone. It subsides fairly quickly, particularly after treatment. Chronic pain, on the other hand, seems to build up over time, and often cannot be connected to a particular injury or condition. What chronic pain...

How Does Pain Work

What is pain? We have all likely felt pain at some time in our lives. Why do we feel pain? What causes it and why? Have you ever really thought about what pain actually is?

Well, there are many things that can cause a person pain and different people have different tolerances for types of pain. Someone with a low tolerance may find many things very painful. Someone with a higher tolerance may be able to withstand these things.

Your pain level all depends on you. Some of it is mind over matter but is there more to it than that? What makes a person feel pain anyway? Pain is caused by certain neurons or sensors in your brain and also in your skin.

How Does Pain Work?

Have you ever really thought about what pain is and how it works? Well, it partly acts as a defense mechanism to protect our bodies. For example, when a child touches a hot stove the pain tells them to pull away.

Pain refers to a physical hurt or disorder. For example, arthritis and cancers can cause pain but of course there are many other conditions that also cause it. A broken bone will cause pain as well. Physical pains can usually be treated by treating the cause of the pain and also by taking pain relievers.

There are over the counter pain relievers such as aspirin and Tylenol that someone might take for a headache or similar problem. More severe problems may require a stronger prescription pain reliever such as Vicodin and morphine.

There are also types of emotional pain that someone feels when they have been abused or lost a loved one. Emotional pain is sometimes a hard one to treat because you have to get to the root of what is causing the pain.

Pain Management Without Drugs
THE LEG I DIDN'T HAVE JUST KEPT ON HURTING "I don't know how this works, but it does." Those were the words of Bill twelve weeks after his first visit to Healthy Visions Wellness Center where hypnosis was used to teach Bill how to control his Phantom Limb Pain. Prior to this, Bill was taking pain medicine two to three times a week. Sometimes the pain was so unbearable that he went to the emergency room for intravenous pain medication. On a beautiful fall day fifteen years ago Bill went deer hunting at a favorite spot in the mountains near Huntsville, Tennessee. As he reached the area where he would set up his deer stand he was taken down by a severe deep cramping and burning pain in his right leg. A pain so severe that it brought tears to his eyes and a scream of agony from deep inside. A pain so intense that he was unable to walk or even stand. He was down and lying on his back with the only way down the mountain was to use his rifle and good left leg to push himself inch by inch. Moving only a few inches with each desperately painful push for what seemed an eternity. "I pushed with my rifle just like I learned to do in the army when crawling under machine gun fire," Bill said. "Of course crawling under that machine gun fire and concertina wire wasn’t nothing compared coming down that mountain thinking I was dying of pain." The pain was unrelenting and after what seemed to be a life time he finally reached where he had parked his truck. Once there, he could neither stand nor pull himself up into the truck. "With nothing else left to do in agony I spread my orange hunting jacket out were it could be seen from the sky and crawled under my truck to....” Bill and a friend had discussed that they would both be hunting in the same area of the mountain on the same...
